Tree stands & Hunting Blinds – Do’s and Don’ts – deer hunting tips when using tree stands .
· Don’t – set up your tree stand in the same spot every year. Just because it was lucky 2 years ago doesn’t mean the another buck will walk your way. Do your homework first before deer hunting in the same location, feeding patterns can change from season to season.
· Do – When mounting your tree stand start at 10’, then step back to make sure you’re not easily seen from the ground. And be careful when removing branches around your perch, remove just enough to get your shot. If you cut too many it can and will expose your position from the ground.
· Don’t – Only use your tree stand when deer hunting. Using someone else stand may not be safe; if someone didn’t mounted correctly you could really hurt yourself. Even if it’s your buddy’s tree stand and he said its ok, the location may be compromised. If every deer within a mile of this stand can smell human scent from that tree you’re just wasting your time. Controlling your scent is tricky controlling someone scent is impossible, even if you use scent eliminators the deer may stay clear of you location based on yesterday scent.
· Do – Think about getting more than one tree stand when deer hunting. If it takes you a few days to land your buck using the same location day after day can hurt your chances. Sooner or later you will make a sound, leave a scent or the wind direction will give you away. If you location isn’t in your favor you should have 2-3 other hot spots to try.
